London based DJ and producer Joshua James has been a key figure in the city’s queer scene for the last 15 years. Known for being one of London’s most diverse and eclectic selectors, Joshua James always brings the party.
Starting off as a mouthy club kid in east London’s queer underground he got his musical education from working with nu-rave club nights in Shoreditch and found a home with club collective Sink The Pink.
Now Joshua James maintains a trio of distinct residencies, including playing all night long every Saturday night at XOYO. London’s hottest new party Feel It run by Little Gay Brother and Jodie Harsh, where we are hosting the best queer underground talent and some of the worlds biggest DJ’s every Friday night. Alongside both these parties Joshua’s Rinse FM show is now in its fourth year and is a staple part of the Rinse family.
Joshua James continues his relationship with Erol Alkan’s Phantasy Records and his latest and fifth contribution to the label with “Fist”. Sampling iconic performance artist, club promoter and designer Leigh Bowery, James connects the expert dancefloor pressure he exacts each weekend as one of London’s best-loved club residents with the unapologetic, defiant legacy of a personal hero. None other than Peaches then takes up the remix mantle for ‘Fist’, intertwining the provocations of two radical performers and connecting three generations of underground queer culture in one sonic menage a trois, perhaps the straight-up rudest club record in recent memory.
